Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico were about 6.8 million mt in July 2011, according to the USGS. This was slightly higher compared with shipments for July 2010. Total shipments for the year through July were approximately 38.8 million mt, unchanged compared to the same period in 2010.
Clinker production totaled 5.7 million mt in July 2011, slightly higher than the output in July 2010. Production for the year through July was 34.2 million mt, slightly lower than that for the same period in 2010. Masonry cement shipments of about 162,000 mt for July 2011 were almost 8.0 percent lower compared with shipments in July 2010. Shipments for the year through July were 1.06 million mt, down almost 9.0 percent from those through July 2010.
July 2011 imports of cement and clinker of about 613,000 mt were down nearly 17 percent from those in July 2010. Imports for the year so far totaled 3.48 million mt, down about 6.0 percent from those through July 2010.
